JingleBelles…the exhibition.

6 11 2012

Well, if there are already Christmas adverts on TV, I feel authorized to start advertising a little show that will be held in London (so anybody in the area is more than welcome to join) on the 6th of December.

Image

The theme is pinups (the name might give it away),  but the styles and approach to the subject varies a lot amongst the great selection of artists showing (ah, yes, then there is me but I don’t count). The show is organized and coordinated by one of these artists, Philip Borg, who started it all and really put a lot of effort into making it possible. So I felt extremely honoured when he asked me to be part of the group, and a big thank you goes out to him.

The other (confirmed) artist who will be showing, besides Philip and myself, are Aly Fell, Darlin Design (Darren Jackson and Linda Vieweg Jackson), John Maybury, and Andrew Hickinbottom. I won’t even start with pointing out how good they are, just click on the website below and find out yourselves.

The exhibition will be held at the Resistance Gallery, 265 Poyser Street, Bethnal Green, London, E2 9RF, on  Thursday 6th December from 7pm to 12pm. Besides seeing some beautiful pictures I really think it’s a great excuse for a nice get together. You can find all the info and artists’ details at the website:  http://www.jinglebellespinups.co.uk/

In the next few days I will be posting some of my pictures on show that day. I decided to give something different but consistent throughout and show mainly originals (there might be a couple of prints, but I haven’t decided yet). So anything ranging from paint, ink, watercolour, pencil, sweat and tears etc.

I hope to see you there

M.I.A : Bad girls are printed well (and big)

25 05 2012

No, not the singer, but the Milan Image Art Fair.

A a couple of weeks ago I happened to be in Milan for a few days  (to attend a wedding -  not mine), so I had the chance to go and see this fair at the Superstudio Più in via Tortona, and in particular the booth of Spazio 81, fine art/giclée printing studio with who I print most of my stuff, especially when it comes down to exhibition pieces (as the quality and service is absolutely amazing). They kindly asked me to use some of my illustrations for the fair, so here’s the result, a 3-piece room divider, with one large illustration on one side and three smaller (smaller? well, not as large, they are anyway huge) ones on the other.

It was  very nice to get to see the result in person, I’d live to come up with the technical details but…I have no idea (or to be precise, I don’t quite remember, so I’d better keep it vague).

Anyway the pictures say it almost all.

I hope to update with some new stuff soon, there are few things I can’t show at the moment, and other unfinished pieces. But you never know.

Super…スーパー

3 02 2012

I had the craziest of starts to 2012…it looked like suddenly the world had remembered me, so quite a few commissions have kept me busy and quiet for a while.

The nice part of it that most of them were quite fun and interesting. So, to start this recap, I’ll post an illustration I did for an Italian national newspaper…on superheroes! I haven’t drawn this stuff for ages (maybe since I was 10!?!), not even at comic school as far as I remember, so it was a bit of a nice change, although they were the reason I started drawing as a child  (drawing my own superhero stories and clipping the whole thing with a stapler). Due to time constraints it was a bit rushed, so I didn’t have the opportunity to refine them and actually check what they looked like nowadays, but it didn’t turn out that bad (as a whole). Ah, of course the black widow and venom (it reminded me of when I was doing the Slaine pages) were my favourites…

And now what next? Anybody up for a Lupin and Margot commission? (especially the latter)

I see ghosts

29 12 2011

I’m not here to tell you the truth, but to omit the lies. Because wherever I go, whatever I do, I see ghosts.

In between days

24 12 2011

And things. I stopped a couple of hours to complete this sketch. Slightly cartoony, very opportunistic, but wtf, might as well get the most out of this time of year.

At least I get to do the cooking. See you on the other side.

Finished (Y/N)?

30 11 2011

Two pictures, and not much to say.

One is something I did last summer, and never really finished off. A competition I could have entered with a more sensible piece, prompted me to finish it off, or at least retouch it slightly..when is something actually finished? That’s a good topic to explore. Maybe something is finished when you give up hope (for it turning in anything good or better), or you don’t care any more (for it to turn in anything good or better). Or when you feel like doing something else. Or when you feel that adding anything else would just start ruining it. Who knows.

The other is a small sketch which became a illustration. That showed me another little hint in the big puzzle. Which I might solve by the time I’m 94.
